Located in southeastern Texas is a small city known as Katy. It is positioned in the Houston Metropolitan Area in Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties. According to the United States Census Bureau, approximately 17,116 people lived in Katy as of 2016.
Katy was originally known as Cane Island. The site the city is located on served as a depot for the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad. The depot operated as early as 1895. By 1919, the depot had been enlarged. The City of Katy purchased the actual depot in 1977 and about 13 years later the depot was converted into a museum and operated by the Katy Historical Society.
Modern-day Katy is a beautiful and vibrant city. There are many recreational facilities available to Katy residents that provide indoor and outdoor entertainment. Katy Park features ball fields, picnic areas, and a jogging path. Willow Fork Park features similar amenities. In addition to parks, many museums are located in Katy. Katy Heritage Museum and Veterans Memorial Museum feature area-relevant artifacts memorabilia. Katy is also home to unique shopping malls that provide opportunities to shoppers, local business owners, and visitors.
Katy is located in a region of the United States that requires residents to have access to cooling and heating systems. During the summer seasons, daytime temperature range from the low to mid-90s on average. When heat waves pass through the city, temperatures will rise to the low-100s. Cooling systems like central air conditioning units help residents of Katy stay cool and comfortable in their homes.
Despite its location in the southern United States, Katy is not immune to cold snaps. During the months of December, January, and February, temperatures may fall below freezing. However, daytime temperatures range from the low to mid-60s on average. When temperatures do fall, heating systems like furnaces protect residents and their homes from potential damages caused by unusually cool temperatures.
